Introducing the Alaskan Klee Kai |
The ALASKAN KLEE KAI is a rare breed that resembles a miniature Husky, and in fact, it was deliberately bred for this appearance. Contrary to a popular misconception the Alaskan Klee Kai does not have it's beginnings with the Siberian Husky but rather with the Alaskan Husky which is a mixture of breeds, most of which are of the Husky type. The Alaskan Klee Kai have that beautiful husky mask and have eyes that are blue, brown or part blue and part brown. There are black and white, gray and white, and on rare occasions, a red and white (only 2 living in the country at present). There are short hair and long hair (not preferred or proper according to UKC AKK Breed Standard. There are three sizes (varieties) of Alaskan Klee Kai (AKK):
Unlike the Siberian Husky the Alaskan Klee Kai are typically cautious with strangers and should be intensely socialized as puppies to keep them from developing their natural shy tendencies. Like so many small breeds they tend to be territorial, and again unlike the Siberian they generally act like a watch dog (not "guard" dog) barking to warn you that someone is approaching their home territory. They adapt well to living either inside or outside, as long as they have some shelter, for like the Siberian they do have that double coat that tends to insulate them from the hot and/or cold elements. Most of them that are raised inside will pick your lap as their favorite spot. To continue learning more about the Alaskan Klee Kai a truly fascinating miniature husky, read on... |
